I’m exactly the same way. I’m very old fashioned but I definitely don’t think I cheap out on my boyfriend. He always pays for meals outside and our outside activities but we date outside only once week. I grab movie rentals and popcorn for nights at home, I cook him dinners with his favorite things to eat, I surprise him often with delicious snacks when he’s studying (chocolate covered strawberries, fruit tarts, energy drinks), give him random little gifts that make me think of him, and I’ve bought lots of bottles of wine because we both enjoy drinking. I think I end up spending more overall than he does! But I still expect him to pay for our dates outside because for one, we don’t date outside often so it’s not like I’m breaking his bank. And two, because I expect to be treated well because I believe I treat him very well and expect the same. Let’s face it, not all guys are super attentive and romantic. Paying for dinner and a movie or a concert is easy to think of. Being romantic, like surprise dinners or gifts, is something that comes easier to girls.
I think in terms of who’s paying, it should be more of a question of is the giving balanced? Sure, he may be paying for all the meals, but what are you doing in return (if you’re not paying)?

I think there’s an easy way to broach the topic without being offensive. The only thing I disagree with is that it doesn’t yet seem like she has a princess complex. I don’t feel enough information is given to make that judgment.
